A NURSERY in the Thornbury area is celebrating after receiving a new Ofsted result.

Natural Choice Nurseries in Alveston was recently rated good by the education watchdog after being inspected on Wednesday, March 13.

The nursery - which looks after 77 children up to the age of four - was rated good in four categories including education, behaviour, development and leadership.

In the report, children were described as “keen to learn”, “curious” and who are “kind to each other."

The inspector also praises leaders for having a “broad curriculum” where staff create an
“exciting learning environment”.

The inspection also mentions the site’s outdoor area where children of all ages enjoy being physically active, exploring and learning about nature.

The report reads: “The management team has good insight into how children learn. They have built a well-designed curriculum, which staff successfully implement.

“Staff know children well and use their knowledge of children's interests to tailor the curriculum to meet their individual needs, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

It continues: “Staff meet children's care needs effectively. They gather information from parents when children start and regularly review this.

“Babies sleep and feed according to their individual needs and routines from home.

“There are lovely interactions as staff change children's nappies, with singing and laughter.

However, to improve, the inspector said staff should support children to think critically and solve problems for themselves to extend their learning and development even further.

Nursery director Nicky Edwards said: “Ofsted inspections are always a stressful event, but our Alveston nursery parents had gone above and beyond to give us their confidence.

“We know families are busy, but on the day, many asked to speak to the inspector, because they wanted to convey their confidence and gratitude for the positive relationships the staff team have with their families.

“They shared about the caring nature of the staff team, their professionalism and their commitment to helping their child develop to their full potential.

“During the ‘learning walk’ we were able to share our company ethos – happy staff, happy children, happy parents, happy planet.

“The inspectors quickly picked up on the very strong culture we have of supporting our staff team.

“The team works together to deliver a strong curriculum for the children which ensures they learn through exciting play and leave the nursery happy confident learners.”

The site was previously inspected in 2018, also receiving a good report.
